Kris Bryant On His Future: 'I'm A Chicago Cub'

Feb 20, 2020 8:24 AM

Kris Bryant has been mentioned in trade rumors this offseason, but for now he's comfortable in his future with the Chicago Cubs.

Bryant sat down with Theo Epstein on Sunday and didn't receive any guarantees, but is confident he'll be with the Cubs on Opening Day.

"Yep," he said. "I'm a Chicago Cub."

During a lengthy press conference on Saturday, Bryant expressed his desire to remain with the Cubs long-term. Those comments led to his meeting with Epstein.

"Everything went great," he said. "It was the best meeting I've had with a superior. It was really good. ... The conversation I had was all that I needed for the questions that were asked in the press conference."

Rockies GM In No Rush To Clear Air With Nolan Arenado

Feb 19, 2020 7:53 AM

Jeff Bridich says he doesn't feel any urgency to clear the air with Nolan Arenado ahead of the season.

The general manager said he'll have a conversation at some point with Arenado, who recently said he felt "disrespect" from Bridich and disappointment in the Colorado Rockies' direction.

"Today was Day 2, (and) yesterday was Day 1 with him in camp," Bridich said. "We've seen each other. We haven't sat yet, but I trust that we will. He's just like all the other players. We'll find time to sit down and interact, both with myself and others, so I trust we'll find the right time for that."

Arenado agreed to an eight-year, $260 million contract extension with the Rockies in February 2019.

Arte Moreno Nixed Joc Pederson Trade With Dodgers

Feb 18, 2020 9:10 AM

Arte Moreno says he nixed the proposed trade that would have seen the Los Angeles Angels acquire Joc Pederson and Ross Stripling from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Moreno added that the Angels could still make an even bigger trade if given the chance this season.

The trade was called off while a blockbuster between the Dodgers and Boston Red Sox was delayed for several days.

"It wasn't all impatience," Moreno said. "There were other things involved, too. ... I just would rather not talk about it. That wasn't going to happen, and it's not happening."

Francisco Lindor: 'I Wanna Win' In Cleveland

Feb 19, 2020 8:07 AM

Following an offseason full of trade rumors, Francisco Lindor says he would prefer to stay with the Cleveland Indians and win with the franchise.

"I wanna win here. I wanna stay here," the infielder said. "I wanna stay here in Cleveland. This is home. I'm not playing to get traded or to put myself in a good spot to get traded. I'm playing to win. I want to win here."

The speculation is that the Indians won't be able to afford Lindor long-term. He is two seasons away from free agency and will undoubtedly command $30-plus million per year.

Nolan Arenado Looking To Move Past Offseason Turmoil

Feb 17, 2020 9:03 AM

Nolan Arenado has vowed to push past an offseason that featured friction between him and the Colorado Rockies.

"I'm just more concerned to play -- play hard and play for my teammates," Arenado said. "Go out there and compete. That's why I'm here. That's what my job is to do.

"I'm excited for that, obviously. There are some things going on. I'm not too worried about them. I'm worried about going out there, getting ready for the season and doing the best I can."

Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million contract last spring, but the Rockies struggled this past season.

He declined to say whether or not he pushed for the club to trade him.

Bryce Harper Isn't Pushing For Phillies To Trade For Kris Bryant

Feb 18, 2020 9:10 AM

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the clubs that have been linked to Kris Bryant in trade rumors this offseason.

Bryce Harper, a longtime friend of Bryant, says he isn't pushing for the Phillies to acquire Bryant from the Chicago Cubs.

"I mean, you have to have certain guys on your team that make less money to also have guys that make more money, as well. Kris, of course, you want an All-Star caliber player, but we have [Alec] Bohm," he said. "We have a big-time third baseman and we were able to get him in the draft. Of course, any time you're able to add an All-Star caliber player, you're going to want to add an All-Star player. But you have to be able to know you developed a player in the minor leagues that can also help you at third base, and Bohm could be that guy for us. He could come up and be one of the best third basemen in the second half or whatever it is.

"But I can't give up Spencer Howard and Bohm, and possibly give up our whole future, for a year and a half of KB if we don't sign him to an extension. And I know there's a guy in there that we need to sign to an extension. I think having a guy like J.T. [Realmuto] for the next six years would help us."

Harper, who is entering the second year of a 13-year deal, is referring to two of Philadelphia's top prospects.

Bryant will make $18.6 million in 2020 before entering salary arbitration for a final time in 2021.

Red Sox, Dodgers Finalize Mookie Betts Trade

Feb 11, 2020 7:39 AM

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized a trade that will send Mookie Betts and David Price to the National League, according to sources.

The Dodgers will send Alex Verdugo, shortstop Jeter Downs and catcher Connor Wong to the Red Sox.

A three-team deal was agreed upon almost one week ago, but the Red Sox were concerned about a medical report for pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol, who was originally part of the deal.

The reworked deal also has the Red Sox paying half of the $96 million left on Price's deal.
